The World Press Photo Foundation believes in the power of showing and the importance of seeing high-quality visual stories. It all began in 1955 when a group of Dutch photographers organized an international contest (“World Press Photo”) to expose their work to a global audience. For six decades, the World Press Photo Foundation has been working from its home in Amsterdam as an independent, nonprofit organization. In that time, the world has changed continuously, and new developments in the media and technology have transformed journalism and storytelling. Our mission has expanded, and we draw on our experience to guide visual journalists, storytellers, and audiences around the world through this challenging and exciting landscape. Our purpose is to connect the world to the stories that matter.
About the job
Your tasks You will work with members of the Communications team, answering to the team’s manager. The primary responsibilities are:
- handling, and responding to public inquiries and media requests;
- executing public relations, media strategy, and marketing campaigns for the World Press Photo House and its events, as well as the World Press Photo Festival program;
- drafting, preparing, producing, and diffusing promotional material, media releases and media kits;
- writing and posting content for our social media streams or website.
Additional responsibilities include:
- assisting the team in high-level events, major media announcements and other projects;
- helping to manage our database of photos, videos, and international contacts;
- participating in research projects by collecting and examining developments in communications, media, visual journalism and storytelling;
- assisting in the creation and production of creative digital assets.

- you have a passion for communications;
- you are a Bachelor or Master student (Communications, Digital / New Media, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations);
- you have an interest in and knowledge of photography, media, and visual journalism;
- you are a quick-thinking self-starter who has the ability to multitask;
- you are a team player, creative, well organized and have a good eye for details;
- you have strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills;
- you are fluent in English, both written and spoken;
- you have experience with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and knowledge of graphic design;
- you have a familiarity with major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

The World Press Photo Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization with its office in Amsterdam. The total staff of the organization is around 30, with 5 staff in the Communications team. We offer an internship with a variety of tasks and responsibilities in a dynamic working atmosphere. You will get the chance to work on maintaining and developing the communications and media profile of the foundation and all its activities worldwide. Working hours can be somewhat flexible depending on deadlines, but on an average, you will work 32 - 40 hours per week. We offer a compensation of €350 (gross / full time) per month, free lunch and, when applicable, a travel allowance. The World Press Photo Foundation wants to enhance the diversity of its workforce.
